It's time to celebrate! BookWoman is having a grand opening celebration on Saturday May, 31, 2008!
BookWoman, one of a handful of feminist bookstores left in the country and as much a community resource as small business, faced a life-or-death crisis this past fall. A confluence of circumstances sent the once break-even business spiraling into debt. The store needed a new location but the costs of moving were daunting. The staff sought ways of freshening up BookWoman's appeal, reaching out to new constituencies while staying relevant to its longtime customer base — but the struggle to stay afloat seemed overwhelming.
So a dedicated group of volunteers stepped up to help. In a few short months BookWoman supporters raised nearly $40,000 and boosted the store's holiday sales by 20 percent.
With the short-term crisis at bay, BookWoman is looking to long-term renewal — moving to a new space, expanding our customer base, remaining a relevant progressive and feminist resource well into the 21st century. To accomplish that goal, we need your help, as customers, as volunteers, and as advisers.
With your input and support, we can save and sustain Texas's only women's bookstore.
As of the end of February 2008, the move to a new space has been accomplished: BookWoman is now open at 5501 North Lamar Boulevard, #A-105 (between North Loop and Koenig Lane). I am also interested in acne treatment and to get six pack abs.
